Curtis Burkett was instrumental in the formation of the Preferred Builder Program by Big Canoe Developer Bill Byrne in 1993. Projects for the Big Canoe POA include the renovation of the Canoe Lodge (currently the POA offices) and the Sconti Club Veranda. He has specialized in custom home construction and land development business for over 24 years and has constructed over 300 homes in the state of Georgia and Texas. His projects include designing and constructing homes and serving as general contractor for several commercial projects, such as new business offices, restaurants, retail strip center as well as residential and commercial land development. A graduate of Texas A&M, Burkett has been building in Big Canoe since 1993, specializing in mountain home construction using a uniquely recognizable brand in the Big Canoe Community. Wayne Bruce has designed, remodeled and or built approximately 280 to 300 homes in Big Canoe over the past 22 years as well as several projects for the Big Canoe POA, including the Tennis Center renovation, new Front Gate House, Black Bear Pub renovation, Black Bear Pub Stone patio and Sconti Club Pavilion along with Burkett. He started his building career in San Antonio, Tex. with Centex Homes and attributes his success to God-given talent, passion, and a love of creating and building. His designs have been featured in several national publications such as “Log Home Living” and “Timber Home Illustrated”.
Jon Howell

Jon Howell’s journey in the construction industry began in his youth, growing up in Georgia and working alongside his father, an HVAC contractor, from the age of 11. This early exposure fostered a deep appreciation for the building trade and equipped him with valuable hands-on experience, a keen eye for detail, and an instinctive awareness that extends beyond classroom learning. Known for his ability to identify potential issues, ensure quality craftsmanship, and manage projects efficiently, Jon has built a strong reputation for excellence in the industry. His commitment to family values—reflected in his marriage to his high school sweetheart and raising four children—continues to influence his professional ethos. With a lifetime of industry knowledge and a client-centered approach, Jon encourages homeowners to take an active role in shaping their vision. Collaborating closely with Jody and the trusted trade professionals at Clements Construction Inc., clients can feel confident and supported throughout the homebuilding process.
Mike McMahan

Michael H. McMahan is a seasoned real estate developer and licensed General Contractor, serving as the owner of Paulding Construction Solutions. With extensive experience in both commercial and residential construction, he has led major assisted living projects including the Overlook at Cedarcrest in Acworth, GA, the Lodge at Stephens Lake in Jasper, and the Timbers at Blackwell Creek at Big Canoe. His residential work focuses on active adult communities such as Mars Hill Village, Stonehaven Villas, and The Village on Blackwell Creek. Mike holds a B.S. in Accounting from Lee University and an M.B.A. in Marketing from Georgia State University. He lives in Acworth, GA, with his wife Debi, and enjoys golf, tennis, and motorcycle riding, while remaining active in his local church.
